PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Soares (ranked 1406 p4p, 1911 weight class) and Oscar De La Weirdo (ranked 153 p4p, 201 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Oscar De La Weirdo!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paulsen Ambrosius and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soares misses with a looping right.
De La Weirdo swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Soares wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Soares has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Soares scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
De La Weirdo blocks a jab.
De La Weirdo takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Soares defending well as De La Weirdo loads up on a big left hand.

De La Weirdo misses with a hook. Soares ducked under it nicely.

and Soares moves into the clinch.
Soares jumps guard but De La Weirdo stands there with Soares around his waist. Soares gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
De La Weirdo is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Soares pulls guard effortlessly.
De La Weirdo is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gabriel Soares will probably get the nod.

De La Weirdo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Soares lands with a short head shot on the inside.
De La Weirdo throws a punch but it's blocked by Soares.

Soares working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. De La Weirdo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. De La Weirdo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Soares throws his legs up looking for a submission but De La Weirdo uses it to pass to side control.
Oscar De La Weirdo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Soares tries to buck De La Weirdo off but De La Weirdo is having none of it.
Gabriel Soares is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

De La Weirdo throws a strike but Soares avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
De La Weirdo throws a strike but Soares rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Well Soares has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
