Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Christian Dresner (ranked 977 p4p, 1359 weight class) and Sabas Mendiola (ranked 128 p4p, 179 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Christian Dresner! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sabas Mendiola! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Ackerman and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A jab from Mendiola does it's job there. Mendiola throws a big shot that misses. Mendiola misses with a straight left. Dresner appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Mendiola drops Dresner with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Dresner looks back up at him and smiles so Mendiola waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Dresner is rocked! Dresner moves away from the strike by Mendiola. Dresner feinted with a counter takedown. Oh Dresner is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Dresner throws a body shot but no joy. Dresner seems to have got his legs back now. Dresner takes a swing at Mendiola's ribcage but misses. Mendiola appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. Mendiola swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Mendiola lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Dresner circles away quickly and effectively. Dresner takes one to the side of the head.

That's one minute gone in the round. A big right from Mendiola misses. Mendiola throws the left hand but Dresner avoids the punch easily. Nice straight punches there by Mendiola. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Mendiola. Dresner misses the shot to the body. Mendiola takes a body punch but keeps moving. Dresner fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Mendiola on the side of the head. Dresner uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mendiola.
Nice body punch from Mendiola. Mendiola misses with a right hand and Dresner counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mendiola won't be happy with that. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mendiola on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dresner wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mendiola keeps working. You can see the frustration on Mendiola's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Dresner tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Dresner has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Dresner trying to control the position but Mendiola is working away. That's three minutes gone in the round. Mendiola parries the strikes from Dresner easily there. Dresner is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Mendiola to escape.
Mendiola tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Dresner wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. We've been hearing good reports from Dresner's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Dresner throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Dresner looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Mendiola is avoiding damage well.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Dresner throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Dresner is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mendiola knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Dresner trying to control the action but Mendiola is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dresner working away. Dresner fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Dresner tries to score with some ground and pound. Mendiola controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Dresner creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Mendiola sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Mendiola is not content to let Dresner control the position. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Sabas Mendiola will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Mendiola misses with a hook. Mendiola clobbers Dresner with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Dresner tries to clinch but Mendiola moves out of range. Mendiola throws out a counter right but Dresner avoids it with no problem. Mendiola might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Dresner throws a hook but Mendiola avoids it easily. Mendiola swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Dresner shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Mendiola misses with a lunging right hand
and Dresner counters with a single leg into guard. Mendiola didn't expect that. Dresner controlling from the top position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dresner accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Mendiola looking for a sweep. Not yet Mendiola, not yet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dresner postures up in Mendiola's guard and throws a big left but Mendiola blocks it. Mendiola tries to land a sweep but no joy. Mendiola seems keen to control Dresner's posture. Dresner pushes down on Mendiola's leg and manages to get into half guard. Dresner in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Mendiola tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Dresner!
