PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jerome Browning (ranked 100 p4p, 929 weight class) and Pascal Popper (ranked 16 p4p, 126 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jerome Browning!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pascal Popper!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Albert Achterberg and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Popper dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
A telegraphed right hand from Popper misses the target.
Browning looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Popper connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Popper stuffs the takedown.
Browning bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Popper looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Browning fails with a takedown attempt.
Browning slips under a jab from Popper.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Browning doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Browning shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Popper defends it nicely.

Popper throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Popper swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Browning slips a straight right by Popper.
Popper lands a jab to Browning's midsection.
Popper throws a body punch but Browning moves out of range.
Browning misses with an uppercut. Popper saw that one coming.
Popper now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Browning missing with a left hand there. Popper was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Browning misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Popper.
Browning takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Popper defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Browning.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Browning lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Browning thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Browning not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Browning throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Browning missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Browning wants to control but Popper is keeping him busy.
Browning thows a huge punch but Popper dodges it nicely.
Popper keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Browning looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Browning is trying to control the action in half guard but Popper is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Browning shoots in and gets a takedown into Popper's guard.
Browning missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Popper really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Browning. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Popper avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Popper can do anything to dispel that myth.

Browning is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Browning with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Browning distracts Popper with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Browning arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Popper's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Jerome Browning!
