Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Balink Tarlah (ranked 2371 p4p, 3203 weight class) and Dan Averescu (ranked 314 p4p, 392 weight class). Averescu has chosen Guns N' Roses - Welcome To The Jungle as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Dan Averescu enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 32 - 26 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Balink Tarlah! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 26 - 38 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dan Averescu! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Chad Campbell and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tarlah jabs at Averescu's body. Tarlah lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Averescu at a distance.
Averescu throws a right hand that misses
and Tarlah counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Averescu tries to keep at a distance but Tarlah has taken the fight into the clinch. Tarlah pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Balink Tarlah seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Tarlah tried to score with a low kick but Averescu checks it. Averescu looks like he wants to counter punch here. Tarlah has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Tarlah there as he acknowledges the shot. Tarlah throws a leg kick and Averescu counters with a nice uppercut. A looping hook to the body misses from Tarlah. Averescu does a little dance to reset his feet. Tarlah closes the distance and pushes Averescu back into the cage. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Tarlah is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Averescu can't fight it off and eventually Tarlah manages to take the fight to the floor. Averescu looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Averescu working for a triangle but Tarlah defends it easily.
Tarlah stays in close to Averescu's body and controls the position. Averescu has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Tarlah is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Averescu. Averescu is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Averescu is letting Tarlah control him for a moment. Averescu tries to buck Tarlah off but Tarlah is having none of it. Averescu is being controlled here. Averescu is looking for a sweep. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Check out the look on Tarlah's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Averescu tries to get back to half guard but can't. Tarlah lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Averescu down.

The fight moves into the clinch position. Tarlah has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Averescu is trying to keep an underhook but Tarlah manages to get the takedown into half guard. Averescu looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Tarlah drops an elbow to the side of Averescu's head. Tarlah seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tarlah's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Tarlah lands with a punch from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Tarlah is figuring out what he wants to do next. Averescu looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Averescu wants to get back to his feet. Averescu tries to get to full guard but Tarlah has control of the leg. Averescu is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Tarlah scores with a couple of nice shots. Averescu looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tarlah takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Tarlah working over Averescu with some ground and pound. Averescu looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Tarlah is controlling the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Tarlah raining down hammerfists from mount. Tarlah pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Tarlah takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Averescu bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Tarlah is pulling down on Averescu's head. It's preventing any offense from Averescu, at least for the moment. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Balink Tarlah dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round! Tarlah swings and misses with a hook to the body.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Averescu! But no joy. A bone on bone clash there as Averescu blocks the leg kick.

Tarlah ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Averescu moves away. Tarlah moves into the clinch. Averescu is struggling to control the position. Tarlah gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Averescu manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Tarlah keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tarlah turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Tarlah manages to end up in side control. Averescu explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Averescu throws a good cross that connects.
We've been informed that Averescu has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Tarlah wants to slow Averescu down by chopping away at his legs.

Tarlah has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Averescu keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Tarlah moves to clinch but Averescu breaks away enabling Averescu to counter with a crisp jab. Averescu might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Tarlah throws a right and a left that Averescu avoids nicely. Averescu looks like he wants to counter punch here. Tarlah tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Averescu was well out of range. Poor timing from Tarlah.

Dan Averescu has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Averescu looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Tarlah sitting and controlling from the half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Balink Tarlah. Well Tarlah has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
