PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ishmael Egyptian (ranked 835 p4p, 2423 weight class) and Caio Peieira (ranked 59 p4p, 72 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Ishmael Egyptian!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Caio Peieira!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Peieira scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Egyptian has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Egyptian tries to buck Peieira off but Peieira is having none of it.

Peieira wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Egyptian, who protects the arm well.

Egyptian is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Peieira's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Egyptian is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Egyptian is trying to maintain the position but Peieira is very close to passing his half guard.
Peieira seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Egyptian wants to get back to full guard.
Peieira performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Egyptian tries to roll over but Peieira keeps him under control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Peieira will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

and Egyptian connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Peieira scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Egyptian makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Egyptian.

Peieira got a little sloppy there for a moment and Egyptian has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Peieira has managed to get both his arms back between Egyptian's legs - danger averted.
Peieira not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Egyptian is looking for a triangle but Peieira pushes his legs off easily.

Egyptian looking to control but Peieira passes into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Peieira in particular looking to stall.
Egyptian is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Peieira's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Peieira's back!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Egyptian is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Egyptian gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Egyptian gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Egyptian apologises and we restart here on the feet.

and Egyptian cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ishmael Egyptian will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Peieira manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Egyptian on his heels. He'll look to pass Egyptian's guard now, I'm sure.

Egyptian has his foot on Peieira's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Peieira works his way back into a safe position though.

Egyptian had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Peieira defends it easily.

Peieira closes the distance and clinches up with Egyptian, looking for a takedown. Peieira pushes Egyptian against the cage but Egyptian circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Egyptian lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Peieira fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

It looks like Caio Peieira has been cut.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ishmael Egyptian!
During a confident post fight interview, Ishmael Egyptian thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
