PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wille Thai (ranked 62 p4p, 265 weight class) and Oscar Gustafsson (ranked 14 p4p, 36 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Oscar Gustafsson was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 22 - 0, fighting out of London, Wille Thai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Oscar Gustafsson!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Nard Betker and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gustafsson with a jab.
A slow jab from Gustafsson misses its intended target.
Thai half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Thai moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Thai looks for a takedown but Gustafsson sprawls well.
It seemed like Gustafsson was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Thai tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gustafsson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Thai somewhat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gustafsson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Thai changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Thai walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Thai dodges the punch combination from Gustafsson.
Thai looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
A big right from Gustafsson misses.
Thai attempts a counter takedown but Gustafsson avoids it well and moves away.
Thai misses with a takedown attempt - Gustafsson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wille Thai. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gustafsson misses with a looping left.
Gustafsson connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Thai's hands.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gustafsson looks to score with a jab to the body but Thai is just out of range.
Thai misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Nice defenses there by Thai.
Oscar Gustafsson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thai tries for a takedown but Gustafsson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Thai slips under a jab from Gustafsson.
Oscar Gustafsson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Thai avoids the body shot from Gustafsson.
Thai drops down looking for a counter takedown but Gustafsson sprawls and moves away.
Gustafsson swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Thai.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Thai closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Gustafsson did well to prevent Thai getting side control.
Thai is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Gustafsson!
Gustafsson is desperately trying to improve his position but Thai has a good base and remains in mount.

Thai is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Gustafsson to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gustafsson shrugs it off.
Gustafsson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Thai. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gustafsson sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Thai is working for a submission of some sort.
Gustafsson is doing well to control the position and prevent Thai from advancing to side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gustafsson tries to kick Thai off but Thai keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Thai is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Thai maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Gustafsson could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Thai has cracked it and Gustafsson is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Thai!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Wille Thai!
