Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Draconis (ranked 622 p4p, 1728 weight class) and Mike Maron (ranked 76 p4p, 206 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Draconis drives through with a takedown into Maron's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Maron pushes Draconis off and scrambles back to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Maron enables Draconis to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Maron manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Maron is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Draconis wants to pass to mount but Maron is defending the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Maron pushes Draconis off looking to stand but Draconis dives back in and keeps control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Maron tries to clinch there but Draconis circles away.
Draconis half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Maron sizes up Draconis with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Draconis swats away the attempt to clinch by Maron.
A looping hook to the body misses from Maron. Draconis does a little dance to reset his feet.

Draconis shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Maron but Maron pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Draconis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Maron to the mat! Maron manages to get full guard.

Draconis manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Maron on his heels. He'll look to pass Maron's guard now, I'm sure.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Maron throws out a loose jab but Draconis uses good head movement to avoid it.

and Draconis counters with a shoot takedown. Maron fights it but they end up in guard.
Maron utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Draconis is in close to Maron's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Maron has momentary wrist control but Draconis slips an elbow through the middle.
Draconis throws an elbow that misses. Maron uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Draconis's guard. Nice move by Maron!

Maron won't allow Draconis to sweep him here.
Maron has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've been informed that Maron has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Maron got a little sloppy there for a moment and Draconis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Maron has managed to get both his arms back between Draconis's legs - danger averted.

Maron gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Maron throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Maron stuffs the takedown.
Maron throws out a counter right but Draconis avoids it with no problem.

Draconis fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Maron to the ground. Draconis is now in Maron's guard.
Maron pulls Draconis in close to prevent any damage.

Draconis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Maron swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Maron has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Draconis is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Draconis is trying to pull guard but Maron has him pressed against the cage.

Draconis seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Draconis's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Maron has one foot on Draconis's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Maron changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Draconis goes for a double leg but Maron avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Maron continues to drive forward.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
