PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Filip Yumashev (ranked 851 p4p, 1439 weight class) and Lars Kay (ranked 60 p4p, 100 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Filip Yumashev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lars Kay!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kay closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Kay working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Kay looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Yumashev with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

The fighters circling - Kay throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
It looked like Yumashev was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Kay.

The crowd cheers as Kay lands an impressive looking overhand right. Yumashev doesn't seem phased though.

Kay cracks Yumashev with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Kay stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Yumashev.
Yumashev walks into a jab.
Yumashev stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Yumashev wants it to stay on the feet.
It looked like Yumashev wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Lars Kay is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Kay tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Yumashev was well out of range. Poor timing from Kay.
Yumashev drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Yumashev takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Kay lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Yumashev tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kay wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Both fighters take a look at the clock.
Kay remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Filip Yumashev has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

I've got Kay winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
