PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mac Anudo (ranked 605 p4p, 566 weight class) and Jeremy Cross (ranked 38 p4p, 13 weight class). Cross has chosen Folk Metal as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 15 - 1, fighting out of New York, Mac Anudo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jeremy Cross!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Andrew Berry and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big right from Cross misses.
A left and a right from Anudo both land. Nice combination.
Cross has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Cross throws a hook but Anudo blocks it.
Anudo fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Cross is out of range.
Cross throws a lazy uppercut
and Anudo makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Cross throws the left hand but Anudo avoids the punch easily.
Anudo scores with a head kick.
Anudo looks to land a left hand but Cross moved out of range nicely.
Anudo definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Cross throws a hook but Anudo avoids it easily.
Cross throws a nice looking combination but Anudo bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Cross misses with a straight right.
Anudo throws a head kick but Cross moves out of range.
Cross throws a poor cross that misses
and Anudo counters with a low kick, right behind Cross 's knee.
Anudo misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Anudo tried to score with a low kick but Cross checks it.
Cross throws an off balance right hand

and Anudo decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cross's guard.

Cross has his feet on Anudo's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Jeremy Cross seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Cross, as that shot connected.

It looks like Mac Anudo has been cut.
Cross looks to throw the jab but Anudo is out of range.
Anudo slips a jab from Cross.
Cross rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Anudo counters with a nice uppercut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Anudo gets a takedown into half guard.
Anudo passes to side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Anudo tries to move to mount but Cross blocks the move with his legs.
Cross is trying to buck Anudo off.

Anudo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Cross is trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cross gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cross controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Anudo throwing shots but Cross is blocking nicely.
Cross has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Anudo is working away from the top position though.
Anudo wants to control but Cross is keeping him busy.
Anudo passes to side control.
Anudo postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Anudo looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Cross wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Cross tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Anudo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cross is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Anudo has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Anudo sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Cross is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Anudo postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Anudo in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Cross struggling a bit here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mac Anudo dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Mac Anudo's cut.
That's time! Anudo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Anudo moves out of range as Cross strikes.
Cross misses with an uppercut

and Anudo counters with a shoot takedown. Cross fights it but they end up in guard.
Anudo won't allow Cross to sweep him here.
Cross bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Anudo's guard.

Anudo looking to control.
Cross is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Anudo trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Mac Anudo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Anudo trying to control the position.

Anudo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cross doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cross manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Anudo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Anudo being controlled here, momentarily.
Anudo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Anudo wants to sweep but no luck.
Cross is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Cross is continuing to stall.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cross looks to land a left hand but Anudo moved out of range nicely.
Anudo was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
A telegraphed right hand from Cross misses the target.
Cross might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Jab, jab by Cross - just one landing.
Anudo attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Mac Anudo is winning the standup battle so far.
Anudo avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Anudo is looking to chop away at Cross's legs.
Anudo moves out of range as Cross strikes.
Cross scores with a decent looking hook.
A right-left combo lands from Cross.
Cross throws a lazy right hand but Anudo sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Anudo misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A countering left hand to the body from Cross misses.
Cross bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Anudo's head backwards.

Anudo is rocked!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cross walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Anudo drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Cross swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Anudo's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:08 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jeremy Cross!
Jeremy Cross seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
