PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Edgars Al Dariush (ranked 42 p4p, 275 weight class) and Duncan Farquharson (ranked 8 p4p, 43 weight class). Duncan Farquharson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Edgars Al Dariush!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 2, fighting out of Amsterdam, Duncan Farquharson!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Ren Mimura and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters are only really looking to counter, so after a good 30 seconds of circling each other endlessly, the referee has stepped in and told them both to be more aggressive.
Farquharson shoots in for a takedown but Al Dariush shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Al Dariush was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Farquharson darts in looking for a takedown but Al Dariush gets double underhooks and turns Farquharson into the cage.
Farquharson defending well as Al Dariush loads up on a big left hand.
Farquharson changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Al Dariush connects with a right hand. Farquharson shakes it off.
Al Dariush's corner calls for a 1-2. Al Dariush obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Al Dariush gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Farquharson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Farquharson is posturing up here but Al Dariush has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Farquharson tries to roll out but it's too tight and Farquharson has to tap! Slick submission there by Al Dariush!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Edgars Al Dariush!
Edgars Al Dariush retains his light heavyweight title!
After winning the bout, Edgars Al Dariush thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
