The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Falandas tries to close the distance and clinch but Covington swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Covington keeps the fight on the outside.

Covington has Falandas pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Covington pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Falandas tumbling to the mat - Covington dives into Falandas's guard.

Covington is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Falandas can't fight it off and eventually Covington manages to take the fight to the floor. Falandas looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Falandas drops back looking for a leg! Covington is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Covington manages to kick Falandas off! Falandas jumps back into Covington's guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mertis Falandas.
I think Falandas has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
