PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Heung Min Choi (ranked 391 p4p, 240 weight class) and Small Richard (ranked 28 p4p, 17 weight class). Choi kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Black Eyed Bruiser. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Heung Min Choi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Small Richard!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Saam Ante and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from Choi misses its intended target.
Richard slips under a jab.
Richard is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Choi is looking to slow Richard down with leg kicks.
Choi tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Richard was well out of range. Poor timing from Choi.
Choi lunges at Richard with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Richard's hand.

Choi will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Richard is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Richard gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Richard gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Richard apologises and we restart here on the feet.

A little jabbing left from Richard on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

A close round but Small Richard will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Choi throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Richard sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Choi misses with a wild body shot.
Richard stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Choi.
Choi tries a low kick but Richard avoids it.
It seemed like Richard was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Richard accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Richard stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Choi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Heung Min Choi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice shot lands for Choi.
Donk. Choi catches Richard right on the button with a cross.
Choi misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Richard.
Richard tries to counter with a clinch but Choi shakes him off and moves away.
Choi connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

and Richard counters with a single leg into guard. Choi didn't expect that.
Richard is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Heung Min Choi dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Choi manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Richard keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Richard has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Choi should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Richard has tightened it up now! Choi should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Small Richard!
