Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jens Ryden (ranked 2194 p4p, 2148 weight class) and Paul Nichols (ranked 305 p4p, 301 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jens Ryden! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Nichols! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Percy O'Donnell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nichols misses with an attempted mid kick.
Ryden swings for the body but Nichols moves out of range.
Ryden fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Nichols manages to avoid it. We've been told by Ryden's head coaches at The Tank Factory that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Nichols just misses with a punch to the body.
Ryden blocks a jab. Nichols lands an overhand right. Nichols walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Ryden checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Nichols scores with a jab. Ryden acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Nichols has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Ryden looks to land a right hand but Nichols moved out of range. A countering left hand to the body from Nichols misses. Ryden cracks Nichols with an open hand slap. Paul Nichols seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nichols does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Nice uppercut lands for Ryden. That snapped Nichols's head back.
Ryden throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Ryden keeps the fight on the outside. A little feinted left hand from Ryden on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Ryden lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Nichols at a distance.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Nichols blocks a jab. Nichols takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Ryden staying out of range there. Nichols is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Nichols looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Ryden gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Nichols. Nichols throws a lazy right hand but Ryden sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Ryden throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

That's one minute gone in the round. Nichols lunges at Ryden with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Ryden's hand. Nichols looks to land a left hand but Ryden moved out of range nicely. Nichols on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Ryden moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. A big left from Ryden misses. Good work by Ryden as he checks the leg kick. Nichols lands a jab to the head.

Ryden defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Nichols. It looked like Ryden wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Ryden swings for the body but Nichols moves out of range.
Ryden misses with a straight left. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Nichols connects with a looping right hand.
Ryden loads up on a big right hand but Nichols slips the punch. Nichols closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Ryden looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Ryden slips under a jab.

Ryden looks to land a combination but Nichols avoids it well. Ryden's corner calls for a 1-2. Ryden obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Ryden has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Nichols finds it's way round the side to connect with Ryden's head. Nichols pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Nice jab there from Nichols. Ryden throws a series of punches but Nichols avoids them all with ease. Ryden misses with a two punch combination.
Ryden thows a left - swing and a miss! Nichols jabs Ryden right on the nose. Ryden blinks but takes it well. Nichols has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Nice uppercut lands for Nichols. That snapped Ryden's head back.
Nichols slips a straight right by Ryden. Nichols fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Ryden uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Nichols. Ryden swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Nichols throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Ryden sees it coming and avoids it easily. Nichols tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ryden paws at him with a jab and circles away. Ryden throws a hook but Nichols avoids it easily. Ryden takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Ryden takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Nichols avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Nichols is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Nice shot by Nichols. Nichols misses with a two punch combination.
Nichols is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Ryden had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush. Nichols misses with a few strikes there.
Nichols tries to close the distance and clinch but Ryden swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Ryden throws a body punch but Nichols moves out of range. Nichols feints a counter leg kick. Nichols keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A right-left combo lands from Nichols.
Ryden is rocked! Ryden shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Oh Ryden is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Nichols connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Ryden! He's out on his feet! Nichols rushes in and drops Ryden with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Paul Nichols! After the fight, Paul Nichols was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
