Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Aleksandr Pushkin (ranked 125 p4p, 200 weight class) and Ken Vrjalya (ranked 14 p4p, 23 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksandr Pushkin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ken Vrjalya!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Radbod Blank and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Pushkin with a poor takedown

and Vrjalya counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Pushkin had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Vrjalya defends it easily.

Vrjalya tries to pass the half guard into mount. Pushkin knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Vrjalya looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Pushkin is staying active underneath Vrjalya, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Pushkin won't allow Vrjalya to pass to mount.

Vrjalya trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Pushkin manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Vrjalya wants to sweep here but Pushkin controlling him for the moment.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Pushkin wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Vrjalya, who protects the arm well.
Vrjalya has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Vrjalya tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Pushkin wants to control but Vrjalya is keeping him busy.
Vrjalya is looking for a sweep.
Pushkin is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Vrjalya's shoulder. That is not cool.
Vrjalya can't do much from the bottom here.
Vrjalya is not content to let Pushkin control the position.

Pushkin content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Vrjalya is trying to improve his position.
Vrjalya wants to control but Pushkin postures up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pushkin remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Vrjalya tries to bench press Pushkin off him but Pushkin keeps the position.

That was a close round but I would say that Aleksandr Pushkin will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Pushkin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vrjalya swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Vrjalya sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Pushkin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vrjalya does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Pushkin is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Vrjalya defends it well.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Vrjalya wants to hit a sweep here but Pushkin passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Vrjalya there!

You can see the frustration on Vrjalya's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Vrjalya is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Pushkin shoots in and drives through. Vrjalya sprawls well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pushkin wants to control the pace but Vrjalya is squirming around nicely.

Pushkin is trying to stick to Vrjalya's back but Vrjalya is turning into Pushkin. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Pushkin's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Vrjalya.
Pushkin wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pushkin, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
