Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rodney Wolford (ranked 1015 p4p, 1128 weight class) and Noah Diaz (ranked 150 p4p, 160 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Diaz's choice of entrance music: OPULENT. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rodney Wolford! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Noah Diaz! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz looks to land a right hand but Wolford moved out of range. Wolford feinted with a counter takedown. A looping hook to the body misses from Wolford. Diaz does a little dance to reset his feet. A little jabbing left from Diaz on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Diaz tried to score with a low kick but Wolford checks it. Wolford misses with a wild body shot. Wolford throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Diaz counters with a nice uppercut.
It looks like Rodney Wolford has been cut. Wolford shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Wolford is nestled in close to Diaz, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Diaz is defending against the submission attempts here by Wolford.

That's one minute gone in the round. Wolford looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wolford is working for a kimura but Diaz is defending it quite comfortably.
Diaz works his way to full guard. Good work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Diaz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wolford doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wolford manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Diaz keeping moving, preventing Wolford from controlling successfully. Wolford is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. We've been hearing that Wolford has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wolford accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Wolford controlling from the top position. Wolford connects with a couple of short punches. Wolford engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Diaz has Wolford pulled in close to control his posture.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Diaz pushes a forearm under Wolford's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Wolford is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Noah Diaz! A relieved looking Noah Diaz thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
