PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ishmael Egyptian (ranked 572 p4p, 1171 weight class) and Lusmu Kutvonen (ranked 48 p4p, 92 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 12 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Ishmael Egyptian!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 24 - 2, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lusmu Kutvonen!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Hirohito Nitta and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kutvonen works Egyptian's body with a nice hook.
Egyptian misses with a series of wild punches.

Egyptian looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Kutvonen!
The referee asks Egyptian politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Egyptian prefers to stall for the moment though.

Egyptian wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kutvonen, who protects the arm well.
Kutvonen throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Kutvonen misses with a strike from the bottom.
Kutvonen misses with an elbow from the bottom.
Kutvonen is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kutvonen throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Kutvonen wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
A lull in the action here as Egyptian stalls from top position.
Egyptian blocks the strikes from Kutvonen.
Egyptian has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Kutvonen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Egyptian wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kutvonen manages to work his way to half guard, despite Egyptian's best efforts.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kutvonen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Egyptian trying to control from half guard but Kutvonen is working away.
Egyptian works his way into side control.

Kutvonen wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Egyptian is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Kutvonen defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Kutvonen is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Egyptian off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Egyptian is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Kutvonen defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Kutvonen manages to reverse the position and now he's in Egyptian's guard. Nice work there by Kutvonen.
Egyptian has momentary wrist control but Kutvonen slips an elbow through the middle.

Egyptian working for a triangle but Kutvonen defends it easily.
Kutvonen scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kutvonen pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Egyptian is keeping the position for now.
Kutvonen with a flurry of punches that miss.

Egyptian pushes a forearm under Kutvonen's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Kutvonen is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ishmael Egyptian!
A very excited looking Ishmael Egyptian made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
Lusmu Kutvonen spoke after the fight, saying 'I think this it is for me. Time to retire. Skills are gone..'.
