PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Katsu Yamasaki (ranked 141 p4p, 263 weight class) and Jorgen Kruth (ranked 15 p4p, 27 weight class). Kruth has chosen Black Hole Sun- Soundgarden as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Katsu Yamasaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jorgen Kruth!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yuuki Gou and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kruth misses with a right hand

and Yamasaki counters with a shoot takedown. Kruth fights it but they end up in guard.
Kruth has control of Yamasaki's left arm, preventing Yamasaki from doing any damage.
Yamasaki pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kruth is keeping the position for now.
Kruth bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Yamasaki's guard.

Yamasaki seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Kruth won't allow Yamasaki to sweep him here.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Yamasaki lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Yamasaki trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Kruth is trying to control the position but Yamasaki postures up.

Kruth looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Kruth is pulling down on Yamasaki's head to control his posture.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kruth throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Yamasaki's waist but Yamasaki gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kruth off to one side.
Yamasaki half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Yamasaki throws a lazy right hand but Kruth sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Kruth throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Jorgen Kruth seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kruth looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Yamasaki is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kruth is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Yamasaki as he works his way to full guard.
Yamasaki keeping moving, preventing Kruth from controlling successfully.

Kruth might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Yamasaki haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Yamasaki looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Yamasaki can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kruth controls the pace.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Yamasaki looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Kruth wants to pass the guard but Yamasaki is keeping the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Katsu Yamasaki will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Kruth shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Yamasaki defends it nicely.
Kruth throws a right hand that misses

and Yamasaki counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Yamasaki scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kruth manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Kruth wants to sweep here but Yamasaki controlling him for the moment.

Kruth is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yamasaki is pushing down on Kruth's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kruth is fighting to maintain full guard but Yamasaki has managed to sneak the leg through.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kruth tries to roll over but Yamasaki keeps him under control.

Yamasaki is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kruth defends it well.

Kruth moves into full guard.
Kruth controls Yamasaki momentarily but Yamasaki frees himself.

Kruth looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Yamasaki passes into half guard.
Kruth has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Yamasaki has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Yamasaki looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Yamasaki moves to the back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kruth breaks Yamasaki's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Yamasaki looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kruth is one step ahead there.

Kruth got a little sloppy there for a moment and Yamasaki has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kruth has managed to get both his arms back between Yamasaki's legs - danger averted.
Kruth looking to sit in guard and control but Yamasaki gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Yamasaki is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kruth can do to turn this around?
Yamasaki tries to free his leg and advance position but Kruth is retaining full guard.
Katsu Yamasaki overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Yamasaki has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Kruth to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Yamasaki is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Kruth pulls down on the head and he's put Yamasaki to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jorgen Kruth!
A very excited looking Jorgen Kruth rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
