PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Porthos Knox (ranked 403 p4p, 992 weight class) and Itziar Belmond (ranked 57 p4p, 134 weight class). Knox kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is One Step Closer | Linkin Park. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 31 - 24 - 4, fighting out of Amsterdam, Porthos Knox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Itziar Belmond!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Paul Aken and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Belmond lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Knox circles away quickly and effectively.
Knox throws a head kick that misses
and Belmond counters with a nice uppercut.

Knox has taken the fight to the clinch.
Belmond drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Belmond's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Belmond pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Belmond has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Knox avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Belmond breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Knox enables Belmond to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Knox manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Belmond shoots in and gets a takedown into Knox's guard.
Belmond sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Knox's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Belmond is just content to waste time from the top position. Knox takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Knox wants to get back to his feet but Belmond is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Porthos Knox seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Belmond shoots in for a double leg but Knox sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Porthos Knox is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

This has been an exciting period of action!
A punch lands to the side of Belmond 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Knox throws a combination that misses
and Belmond counters with a lovely straight right hand!

A decent looking cross lands there for Knox.

Knox chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Belmond can pounce on him.

Knox shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Belmond eats them both and turns towards Knox to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Knox crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Belmond - the referee stops the clock and Knox gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Belmond. Knox manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Porthos Knox will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Belmond tries to move into range but Knox moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Belmond has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
Knox swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Belmond takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
The fighters circle momentarily. Belmond darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Knox is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Belmond.

Belmond manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Knox on his heels. He'll look to pass Knox's guard now, I'm sure.

Belmond looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Knox won't allow Belmond to pass to mount.

A looping hook to the body misses from Knox. Belmond does a little dance to reset his feet.
Knox throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Knox is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Knox throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Knox ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Porthos Knox is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Knox moves in looking to clinch but Belmond pushes him off.

Belmond breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Knox cracks Belmond with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Knox, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Porthos Knox decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
