Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gilbervan Soares (ranked 707 p4p, 2777 weight class) and Lyoha Nagibatel (ranked 88 p4p, 320 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gilbervan Soares!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lyoha Nagibatel!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Alexandre Firmino and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Decent striking displayed by Soares there.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Soares has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Nagibatel is trying to keep an underhook but Soares manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nagibatel has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Soares is working away from the top position though.
Soares is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Nagibatel has momentary wrist control but Soares slips an elbow through the middle.

Soares shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Nagibatel's guard.

Soares lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

and Nagibatel makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Soares fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Nagibatel looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Gilbervan Soares overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Soares has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Nagibatel has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Soares is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Nagibatel can do to turn this around?
Nagibatel looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

It looked like Soares was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
