Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kotetsu Yama!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson missing with a left hand there. Yama was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Johnson moves out of range of the strikes.
We've been told by Johnson's head coaches at Heavy Metal that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Johnson throws a body punch but Yama moves out of range.
Yama wants to counter with a clinch but Johnson pushes him away.
Yama jabbing away but nothing is landing.
We've been informed that Yama has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Johnson throws a leg kick but Yama sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Yama dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Kotetsu Yama seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Johnson scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Johnson misses with a hook. Yama ducked under it nicely.
Yama lands a nice shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Yama loads up on a big right hand but Johnson slips the punch.

Johnson clinches up with Yama and pushes him back against the cage.
Yama drops down looking for an ankle pick but Johnson pulls his leg out and moves away.
Yama circles away from the clinch attempt.
Yama looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Yama dodges the punch combination from Johnson.
Yama throws a hook to the side of Johnson's head but Johnson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A little feinted left hand from Johnson on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Yama lands with a nice body punch.
Yama throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Johnson is looking to counter punch.
Yama connects with a body shot that sends Johnson's belly button to the back.

Yama gets tackled into the cage by Johnson. Johnson maintains the clinch.
Johnson misses with a hook to the ribs.
Yama working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Johnson pushes Yama back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Johnson swings wildly with an uppercut but Yama uses good head movement to avoid it.
Johnson lands a nice uppercut.
Johnson lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Yama.

Yama lands a right hand that snaps the head of Johnson backwards.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Johnson struggles to land a body shot inside as Yama controls his hands.
Yama tries to work over Johnson's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Yama lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Johnson tries to throw a body punch but Yama avoids it by throwing Johnson back against the cage.

Johnson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Yama darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Yama lands with a shot to the body.
A looping hook to the body misses from Yama. Johnson does a little dance to reset his feet.
Johnson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Yama feints the counter takedown.

Yama fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Johnson sprawls well initially but Yama persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Johnson kicks off Yama and gets to his feet.
Yama misses with a double jab.
Yama lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Johnson at a distance.
Yama shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Johnson pinned against the cage. Johnson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
James Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kotetsu Yama.

That's five minutes gone in the round.
Yama misses with a shot to the body
and Johnson counters with a good low kick that Yama was not able to check.
Yama clobbers Johnson with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Yama staying out of range there.
Johnson lands a jab to the nose.
Johnson chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Yama takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Johnson doesn't manage to clinch there - Yama circles away.
Johnson takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Johnson fails in his attempt to clinch.

Johnson throws a right hand that misses

and Yama counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Johnson pushes Yama off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Johnson makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Yama throws a left and a right that both miss
and Johnson counters with a stiff right hand.
Johnson scores with a nice head shot.

Yama is rocked!
Johnson cracks Yama on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Yama falls backwards against the cage. Johnson follows up with more strikes that drop Yama to his knees. Johnson keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Yama! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 7:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Johnson!
An out of breath James Johnson thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
