The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chai throws a nice outside leg kick. A low kick from Chai misses and Choke counters with a takedown into side control. Chai parries the strikes from Choke easily there. Choke is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Chai to escape.
Choke tries to score with some ground and pound. Chai controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Choke goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Chai has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Choke but great work by Chai. Choke tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Chai presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Choke throws a strike from the bottom but Chai uses the opportunity to take his back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Choke tries to escape but Chai has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Choke is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
I really don't envy Choke right now.
Choke is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Choke turns into Chai and is now in his guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Choke drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Choke as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Chai screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Choke! Nice submission victory there!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). David Choke! David Choke is the new light heavyweight champion!
