Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Handerson (ranked 98 p4p, 1024 weight class) and Wanderlei Rua (ranked 12 p4p, 133 weight class). Handerson comes to the cage accompanied by America - A Horse With No Name. Dave Handerson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wanderlei Rua!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Paulo Santos and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Handerson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Rua quickly recovers to half guard.
Rua wants to get back to full guard but Handerson has passed into side control.
Handerson in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Handerson is looking for a kimura but Rua is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Handerson to get the leverage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Handerson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rua gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Handerson holds on and takes a little breather.

Rua working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Rua postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Rua tries to free his leg and advance position but Handerson is retaining full guard.

Handerson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rua defends well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rua wants to control from the top but Handerson keeps moving.

Handerson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

A looping hook to the body misses from Rua. Handerson does a little dance to reset his feet.

Rua fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Handerson.

Rua throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Handerson stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Rua attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

Handerson has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Rua regains guard immediately.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Handerson here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Handerson is working Rua over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Handerson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
