Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Javier Martinez (ranked 766 p4p, 1912 weight class) and Balink Tarlah (ranked 103 p4p, 241 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 46 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Javier Martinez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 36 - 27 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Balink Tarlah! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Martinez wants to clinch up but Tarlah keeps it at a distance. Tarlah falls off balance throwing a combination
and Tarlah takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Tarlah takes a swing at Martinez's ribcage but misses. Martinez lands the left hand. Tarlah misses with a leg kick. Martinez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Tarlah. Martinez defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Tarlah. Martinez clinches with his opponent.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The referee is keeping an eye on Martinez - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Martinez is pressed up against the cage. Tarlah has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Martinez down to the mat. Martinez avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Javier Martinez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Balink Tarlah. Martinez gets the takedown into side control. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Martinez trying to control the action but Tarlah is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Martinez is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Tarlah is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Check out the look on Martinez's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Martinez controls the position. You can see the frustration on Tarlah's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. A lull in the action here. Martinez is working Tarlah over with some ground and pound from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Martinez working the ground and pound but Tarlah is defending the strikes. Martinez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Tarlah is trying to improve his position. Martinez misses with the ground and pound. Martinez tries to score with some ground and pound. Tarlah controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Martinez looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Martinez just content to control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tarlah is looking to reverse the position. Martinez wants to control but Tarlah is keeping him busy. Tarlah parries the strikes from Martinez easily there. Martinez is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Tarlah to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tarlah tries to bench press Martinez off him but Martinez keeps the position. Martinez in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Martinez is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Tarlah will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Martinez lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Tarlah down.

Martinez scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Tarlah to see if he's OK. Martinez tries to score with some ground and pound. Tarlah controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Martinez misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Tarlah is not content to let Martinez control the position. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tarlah gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Martinez counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Martinez shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Martinez trying to control from half guard but Tarlah is working away. Martinez is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tarlah can do to turn this around? Martinez is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Martinez wants to control from the top but Tarlah keeps moving.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Tarlah ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Martinez moves away. Martinez works the jab nicely. The fight moves into the clinch position. Martinez throws an elbow that misses.
Both guys are working to get underhooks. Tarlah is looking for a takedown. Tarlah blocks an elbow strike from Martinez.
Martinez gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Javier Martinez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Balink Tarlah. Tarlah tries for a takedown but Martinez manages to get underhooks.

Martinez thuds his right hand into Tarlah's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Tarlah dives in for a single leg takedown but Martinez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Martinez moves in looking to clinch but Tarlah pushes him off. Martinez gets a takedown into half guard. Tarlah trying to get back to full guard but Martinez takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Martinez lands a couple of good shots and Tarlah has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Martinez lands a punch to the side of the head from the back. Tarlah covering up well under a series of strikes from Martinez. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Tarlah avoids the strikes from Martinez. Good control from Martinez. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Martinez has the hooks in. Tarlah is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tarlah scores with a couple of short elbows. Martinez manages to work his way to half guard, despite Tarlah's best efforts. Martinez wants to improve his position but Tarlah is controlling well.

That's one minute gone in the round. Tarlah tries to pass the half guard into mount. Martinez knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Javier Martinez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Martinez wants to sweep but Tarlah has passed to side control! Tarlah controlling the position. Martinez manages to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Martinez is staying active underneath Tarlah, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Martinez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Martinez is working hard here to advance position. Tarlah sitting and controlling from the half guard. Let's hope that Tarlah has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Tarlah dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tarlah gets caught flat footed, as Martinez shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Martinez in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Martinez throwing strikes from guard but Tarlah blocks nicely. Tarlah is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Tarlah is trying to keep Martinez in close.
Tarlah utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Martinez is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Martinez throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Martinez is stalling in the full guard. Martinez trying to control the position from guard on top but Tarlah is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Balink Tarlah seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Tarlah is looking to score with low kicks. Martinez slaps away a takedown attempt from Tarlah, before circling back to the center of the mat. Tarlah shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Martinez counters with a straight right hand. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Martinez is defended easily by Tarlah.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Javier Martinez. Well Martinez has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
