Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Aleksandr Pushkin (ranked 32 p4p, 90 weight class) and Minato Tokugawa (ranked 4 p4p, 11 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksandr Pushkin! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 21 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Minato Tokugawa! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Dillan Fox and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tokugawa thows a left - swing and a miss! Tokugawa pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Pushkin feinted with a counter takedown. Tokugawa tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Pushkin was well out of range. Poor timing from Tokugawa. Tokugawa keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. A countering left hand to the body from Tokugawa misses. Pushkin shoots in for a takedown but Tokugawa shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Pushkin slips a jab from Tokugawa. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pushkin closes the distance and clinches up with Tokugawa, looking for a takedown. Pushkin pushes Tokugawa against the cage but Tokugawa circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aleksandr Pushkin. That's going to take a lot out of him. Tokugawa throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

That's one minute gone in the round. Tokugawa wants to clinch up but Pushkin keeps it at a distance. Tokugawa loads up on a big right hand but Pushkin slips the punch. Minato Tokugawa is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Pushkin walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Pushkin pushes Tokugawa up against the cage in a clinch. Pushkin pulls guard successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Pushkin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Pushkin is pressing down on Tokugawa's thigh, looking to free his foot. Tokugawa is holding on for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pushkin works his way into side control. Pushkin wants to control but Tokugawa is keeping him busy. Pushkin thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Tokugawa is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Pushkin's leg. He's managed it. Pushkin wants to take a breather but Tokugawa is having none of it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pushkin is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Tokugawa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pushkin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Tokugawa is controlling Pushkin's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Tokugawa desperately trying to maintain half guard. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Pushkin is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Pushkin has his foot on Tokugawa's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Tokugawa tries to hold on but Pushkin pushes him away. Tokugawa is controlling an arm, preventing Pushkin from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Pushkin takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Pushkin tries to control but Tokugawa wriggling away. Tokugawa tries to hold on but Pushkin postures up. Pushkin jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Tokugawa is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Tokugawa and Pushkin has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
