Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tevin Shay (ranked 287 p4p, 329 weight class) and Mick Marsden (ranked 33 p4p, 36 weight class). Marsden is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Brick - Ben Folds Five. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tevin Shay! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mick Marsden! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shay waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Marsden. Marsden with the inside leg kick. Marsden connects with a nice looking jab.
Shay rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Marsden counters with a left to the body. A nice inside leg kick there by Marsden. That's going to slow Shay down. Marsden is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Jab from Marsden. Marsden lands the left hand. Marsden throws a hook but Shay blocks it. Shay takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Shay steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Marsden. Shay misses with a body punch
and Marsden counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shay moves away from the strike by Marsden. A head kick from Marsden lands but Shay takes it in his stride. Marsden misses with an uppercut. Shay misses with a lunging right hand
and Marsden counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Shay throws a jab when Marsden was well out of range. Marsden tries to counter with a clinch but Shay shakes him off and moves away. Shay throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Shay scores with a jab. Marsden acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Shay uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Marsden. Marsden lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Mick Marsden is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Shay chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Marsden can pounce on him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Marsden throws a leg kick but Shay sees it coming and moves out of range. Marsden throws a body shot but no joy. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Shay connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Marsden tries a head kick but it misses.
Marsden is looking to clinch but Shay is avoiding it.
Marsden throws a hook but Shay blocks it. A low kick from Marsden is predictable there and Shay counters with a takedown into side control. Marsden wants to get back to his feet. Shay is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Marsden will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Shay creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Marsden sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Marsden is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Sloppy strikes there by Shay. Marsden wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Marsden is not content to let Shay control the position. Shay tries to move to mount but Marsden blocks the move with his legs. We've been hearing that Shay has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Marsden is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Marsden is not content to let Shay control the position.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Mick Marsden seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Shay has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Shay there as he acknowledges the shot. Shay throws out a loose jab but Marsden uses good head movement to avoid it. Marsden was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind. Shay swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Shay jabbing away but nothing is landing. Shay staying out of range there. Shay changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Shay misses with an uppercut. Marsden saw that one coming. Shay throws an overhand right that lands on Marsden's shoulder, as Marsden tries to avoid the shot. Marsden looks like he wants to counter punch here. Marsden waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Shay. A leg kick checked by Shay. Shay feinted with a counter takedown. Marsden throws a body punch but Shay moves out of range. Shay looks to land a left hand but Marsden moved out of range nicely. Shay misses with a wild body shot. Shay tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Marsden was well out of range. Poor timing from Shay. Nice defenses there by Marsden. Marsden swings for the body but Shay moves out of range.

That's six minutes gone in the round. Shay gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Nice takedown defense from Marsden. No joy for Shay on that attempt. Marsden swinging wildly here.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Shay. Sloppy strikes from Marsden. Those never looked like landing. Marsden throws a lazy uppercut
and Shay counters with a nice double leg into guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Shay tries to free his leg and advance position but Marsden is retaining full guard. Shay engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Marsden working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Shay. Shay stops Marsden from standing up. Shay throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Shay stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marsden swivels though and keeps the full guard. Shay scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Marsden keeping moving, preventing Shay from controlling successfully. Shay with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Shay has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Shay trying to control but Marsden is working from the bottom. Marsden keeping full guard, as Shay tries to pass. Shay sitting in guard, not really doing much. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Shay trying to control the position from guard on top but Marsden is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. A head kick misses from Marsden. Marsden throws a body punch but Shay moves out of range.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Shay takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Marsden throws a leg kick and Shay counters with a nice double leg into guard. Marsden is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Shay dives into side control.
Shay is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Marsden is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Shay has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Marsden is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Shay yanks on the arm and Marsden is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Shay.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 9:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Tevin Shay! After winning the bout, Tevin Shay thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
