Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mikheil Berishvili (ranked 1227 p4p, 2397 weight class) and Jorge Rocha (ranked 111 p4p, 205 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mikheil Berishvili! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Jorge Rocha! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Phil Schofield and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Berishvili clinches. Berishvili manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Rocha trying to control the position from guard on top but Berishvili is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Rocha engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Berishvili had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rocha defends it easily. Rocha is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rocha looking to sit in guard and control but Berishvili gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's one minute gone in the round. Berishvili wants to pass the guard but Rocha is keeping the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Berishvili slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Berishvili trying to control but Rocha is working from the bottom. Rocha had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Berishvili defends it easily. Berishvili is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Berishvili drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rocha manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Berishvili has Rocha in his guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Rocha looking to sit in guard and control but Berishvili gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Rocha is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Berishvili has his hands clasped together but Rocha extends and breaks Berishvili's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Rocha.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jorge Rocha! Jorge Rocha bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
