The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Hirohito Nitta and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miekka fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Howell's coach down at New York Public Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Howell's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Miekka throws a front kick that sends Howell stumbling back into the cage.
Miekka lands a jab.
Miekka scores with a crisp jab that stopped Howell in his tracks.
Howell blocks a head kick by Miekka.
Howell will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Miekka fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Miekka lands a head shot.
Miekka lands a glancing blow to the side of Howell's head.
It looks like Devyn Howell has been cut.
Miekka lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Miekka lands a slapping body shot.
Howell takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
A jab from Miekka does it's job there.
Howell is rocked!
Miekka sees an opening and throws a straight punch right through Howell's defenses. It connects perfectly with Howell's jaw and knocks him out cold! Wow - that's a contender for knockout of the year - absolutely brutal!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Puukko Miekka!
A very excited looking Puukko Miekka made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
