Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Otto McBean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Aslanbek Akhtankhanov!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McBean moves into range and clinches up with Akhtankhanov.
I was talking to McBean's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Akhtankhanov tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
McBean can't find room to land a body shot as Akhtankhanov controls the action.
McBean blocks a punch to the side of the head.
McBean goes for a takedown in the clinch but Akhtankhanov prevents it.
Akhtankhanov gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from McBean.
McBean blocks an uppercut.
Akhtankhanov misses with a short punch on the inside.
Akhtankhanov blocks an uppercut.
Akhtankhanov is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
A shot in the inside from McBean.
McBean is trying to drag Akhtankhanov to the mat but Akhtankhanov just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Otto McBean. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McBean drops down looking for an ankle pick but Akhtankhanov pulls his leg out and moves away.
Akhtankhanov moves out of range of the strikes.

McBean rushes Akhtankhanov and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

McBean digs a right hand into Akhtankhanov's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Akhtankhanov's gas tank.

McBean pulls guard effortlessly.
McBean is trying to keep Akhtankhanov in close.
Akhtankhanov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Akhtankhanov working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

McBean looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Akhtankhanov got a little sloppy there for a moment and McBean has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Akhtankhanov has managed to get both his arms back between McBean's legs - danger averted.
McBean might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Akhtankhanov in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Akhtankhanov is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! McBean is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! McBean has escaped and now he's on top!

Akhtankhanov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McBean. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
McBean advances position into side control!

Akhtankhanov is looking to reverse the position.
Akhtankhanov is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Akhtankhanov can't do much from the bottom here.

McBean takes a little break here. Akhtankhanov wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
McBean passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Akhtankhanov!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Akhtankhanov is looking to escape here. Oh dear - McBean has locked on a rear naked choke here! Akhtankhanov is tapping out! The fight is over!
