PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Choke (ranked 150 p4p, 99 weight class) and Chaikka Chai (ranked 23 p4p, 17 weight class). Chai comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Dead Man Walking kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! On his way into the cage it seems that David Choke has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily David Choke seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 39 - 24 - 1, fighting out of London, David Choke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 9 - 1, fighting out of London, Chaikka Chai!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Choke stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Chai.
Chai throws a sloppy head kick

and Choke counters with a takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chai tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Choke wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Choke tries for a kimura but Chai is defending well.

Choke looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chai is looking for a sweep.

Choke misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Choke creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Chai sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Choke has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Choke throwing strikes but Chai manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Choke is trying to get back to half guard.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Choke looks to move to half guard but instead Chai has passed into mount! Damn!

Chai manages to capitalize on a mistake by Choke to take his back!
Chai is trying to stick to Choke's back but Choke is turning into Chai. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Chai's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Choke.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Choke accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Choke drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Chai dives on top into guard.

Choke is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Chai defends well.

Chai got a little sloppy there for a moment and Choke has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Chai has managed to get both his arms back between Choke's legs - danger averted.

Chai throws a lazy right hand but Choke sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Choke takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Some wild striking there from Chai.
Chai stuffs the takedown attempt from Choke. Choke gets slowly back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Choke throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Chai's waist but Chai gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Choke off to one side.
Chai throws an overhand right that lands on Choke's shoulder, as Choke tries to avoid the shot.
Chai throws out a loose jab but Choke uses good head movement to avoid it.

A telegraphed right hand from Chai misses the target.
Chai lands a glancing blow to the side of Choke's head.
Choke throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Chai's waist but Chai gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Choke off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Choke. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Choke uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Chai.
Chai buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Chai has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Choke darts in looking for a takedown but Chai gets double underhooks and turns Choke into the cage.
A nice side step and Chai releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Choke pulls guard effortlessly.

Choke has an active guard here but Chai has managed to pass into half guard.
Choke is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Chai jumps into side control!
Chai has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Choke!

Chai forces the positional change into back control.
Chai has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Choke's body.
Choke is trying to break free.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Chai is continuing to stall.
Chai controlling well, preventing Choke from escaping the position.
Chai is trying to stick to Choke's back but Choke is turning into Chai. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Chai's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Choke.

David Choke overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Chai is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Choke is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Chai is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
