PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Deer Hunter (ranked 1206 p4p, 824 weight class) and Marski Martola (ranked 131 p4p, 91 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Deer Hunter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 15 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marski Martola!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Glass and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martola lands with a straight right. Hunter didn't see that one coming.
Martola dips to his left and cracks Hunter with an uppercut!
Martola lands a jab to the head.
Martola wants to clinch.

and Hunter counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Martola has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Martola connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Hunter takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Martola has the hooks in. Hunter is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Hunter takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Hunter throws a leg kick but Martola checks it.
Hunter finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Martola has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hunter tries to move into range but Martola moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Martola uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hunter.
Hunter throws a half hearted mid kick.
Martola connects with an inside leg kick.
Hunter tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Martola was well out of range. Poor timing from Hunter.

and Hunter counters with an inside leg kick.
We've been told by Hunter's head coaches at 3Band MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Hunter takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hunter misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Martola.
Martola drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Hunter defends it well.
Hunter walks forward, straight into a front kick from Martola.

Martola thuds a left hand into Hunter's body.

Hunter on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Martola cracks Hunter with an open hand slap.

Hunter gets caught napping as Martola dives in and scores a takedown. Hunter manages to retain guard.
Martola throws a strike but Hunter rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Martola looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Martola is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Hunter rolls with it to try and escape but Martola cranks on the arm and Hunter is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

A very excited looking Marski Martola made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
