Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between James King (ranked 936 p4p, 782 weight class) and Marcus Shakes (ranked 92 p4p, 74 weight class). Shakes has chosen About the Money- T.I. as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 41 - 27 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, James King! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 27 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marcus Shakes! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shakes moves out of range of the body kick from King.
King moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. We've been told by King's head coaches at Crapollas Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Shakes works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Shakes tries to clinch but King moves out of range. Shakes is looking to take this fight into the clinch. King throws a counter high kick but Shakes was just alert enough to avoid it. Shakes jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Shakes missing with a left hand there. King was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. A big left from Shakes misses. King was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shakes throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
King on the wrong end of a nice hook. Shakes tries to clinch but King moves out of range. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Shakes gets a clinch. Still in the clinch, King scores with a nice short uppercut. King lands with a light punch inside.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shakes pushes King back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. King makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. King lands an uppercut. Shakes blocks a punch to the side of the head.
King throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Shakes blocks it with crossed arms. Shakes lands on the inside with an uppercut. Shakes throws a punch but it's blocked by King. Shakes misses with a hook to the ribs.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, King creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. King lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Shakes. Shakes misses with an elbow strike.

Shakes lands with a short head shot on the inside. King lands with a short head shot on the inside. Shakes lands a knee to the head.
King with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

King is breathing heavily. Shakes crunches a lovely knee into King's ribcage. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Shakes unloads a knee to the mid-section. King lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh. Shakes lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
King works on Shakes's body with a couple of short punches. Shakes blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. King's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Shakes comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Shakes lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt King or not. A knee to the head by Shakes.
King is rocked! Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Shakes obliges. Shakes lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Oh King is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! With the fighters clinched against the cage, Shakes creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Shakes has the Thai clinch. He lands a big knee to the head that stumbles King - he's in trouble! Another big knee to the head from Shakes, and another! King is out on his feet - the ref jumps in to save him and ends the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knees). Marcus Shakes! Marcus Shakes really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Hype Nutrition logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
