Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Axton Burgess (ranked 254 p4p, 472 weight class) and Reino Ruttu (ranked 32 p4p, 61 weight class). Burgess comes to the cage accompanied by I Can Only Count to Four. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Axton Burgess! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 20 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Reino Ruttu! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Fujiwara.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Burgess throws a jab when Ruttu was well out of range. Ruttu looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Burgess swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Burgess misses with a hook
and Ruttu counters with a straight right hand. Ruttu lands with a right hand. Ruttu thows a left - swing and a miss! Ruttu keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Burgess. Ruttu fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Burgess closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Burgess lunges at Ruttu with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Ruttu's hand. Ruttu stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Burgess throws a body shot but no joy. A little jabbing left from Ruttu on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Reino Ruttu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ruttu lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Ruttu keeps Burgess at a distance using the push kick. Ruttu wants to land a leg kick but Burgess is out of range. Burgess misses with a right hand and Ruttu counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Burgess finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Ruttu misses the shot to the body. Ruttu looks to land a left hand but Burgess moved out of range nicely. A quick step to the side and Burgess tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Ruttu shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Burgess feinted there with a counter leg kick. A looping hook to the body misses from Ruttu. Burgess does a little dance to reset his feet. Burgess swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Burgess dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Ruttu. That did some damage! Ruttu throws a series of punches but Burgess moves out of range. Burgess swings widly with a right hand
and Ruttu connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Burgess misses with an uppercut. A nice side step and Ruttu releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Burgess moves out of range of the body kick from Ruttu.
Ruttu misses with a hook. Burgess ducked under it nicely. An attempted straight right counter from Burgess misses the target. We've been told by Burgess's head coaches at FIGHT FOUNDERS (CA) that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Ruttu thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Burgess if he has to take too many more of those.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruttu throws a body punch but Burgess moves out of range. An attempted straight right counter from Burgess misses the target. Ruttu swings widly with a right hand
and Burgess counters with a good low kick that Ruttu was not able to check. Ruttu connects with a right hand. Burgess shakes it off. Ruttu connects with a right hand. Burgess shakes it off. Good exchange - Ruttu coming out on top. Burgess connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Ruttu lands with a nice body kick. Ruttu throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Ruttu thows a leg kick but Burgess checks it and Burgess counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Burgess drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ruttu throws a leg kick but Burgess moved away. Ruttu has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off. Ruttu lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. A kick lands to the mid section there for Burgess. Burgess scores with a sloppy right hand. Ruttu should have avoided that one. Burgess checks the leg kick nicely there.
Burgess quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect. A shot to the body from Ruttu misses letting Burgess counter with a right hand.
 It looks like Reino Ruttu has been cut. Burgess scores with a jab to the body. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Reino Ruttu dominated that round. The cut man is working on Reino Ruttu's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.
A jab from Burgess does it's job there. Ruttu misses with a body kick. Burgess has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Ruttu finds it's way round the side to connect with Burgess's head. The fighters circle momentarily. Ruttu darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Burgess might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far. Burgess slips under a jab from Ruttu. Burgess throws out a token jab with nothing on it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ruttu throws a lazy uppercut
and Burgess counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Burgess lands with a nice body punch. Ruttu misses with an uppercut.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Jab by Ruttu. Ruttu ducks under a wild hook from Burgess. Burgess throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Ruttu shapes to counter with a head kick. Burgess throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Burgess looks to score with a jab to the body but Ruttu is just out of range. Burgess fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Ruttu manages to avoid it. Ruttu doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Ruttu is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Burgess. Ruttu throws a jab but it's blocked by Burgess. It looked like Burgess wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Burgess swings for the body but Ruttu moves out of range.
Burgess fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Burgess has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ. Ruttu throws an off balance right hand
and Burgess connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Burgess throws a poor cross that misses
and Ruttu cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Ruttu jabbing away but nothing is landing. A nice leg kick lands there from Ruttu. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Ruttu scoring well with a low kick there.

 That's three minutes gone in the round. Burgess takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Burgess chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Ruttu throws a lazy body kick and Burgess counters with a good low kick that Ruttu was not able to check. Burgess misses with a jab to the body
and Ruttu counters with a lovely straight right hand! Burgess tries to land a body kick enabling Ruttu to counter with a crisp jab. Ruttu misses with a straight right. Ruttu fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Burgess. Burgess keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Ruttu throws a poor cross that misses
and Burgess counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Burgess checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Burgess throwing a counter right hand but Ruttu manages to avoid it. Burgess checks the leg kick nicely there.
Burgess was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Burgess tries a head kick but it misses.

and Ruttu counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Ruttu lands a glancing blow to the side of Burgess's head. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ruttu lands a nice hook to Burgess's body. Burgess takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. A chopping leg kick lands by Ruttu. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Reino Ruttu will probably get the nod - 10:9. The cut man is working on Reino Ruttu's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Burgess misses with a looping right. Ruttu lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Burgess slips under a jab from Ruttu. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Burgess checks a leg kick. Burgess is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight. Burgess uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Burgess misses with a head kick.
Ruttu swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Ruttu throws out a loose jab but Burgess uses good head movement to avoid it.

and Ruttu counters with a left to the body. Burgess walks forward, straight into a front kick from Ruttu. The crowd cheers as Ruttu lands an impressive looking overhand right. Burgess doesn't seem phased though. Burgess uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ruttu. Burgess is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Ruttu sizes up Burgess with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Burgess on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Ruttu sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Ruttu catches Burgess with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruttu feints and then cracks Burgess's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Burgess down. Burgess misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ruttu tried to score with a low kick but Burgess checks it. As Ruttu backs away, Burgess returns fire with a leg kick that just misses. Ruttu jabbing away but nothing is landing. And Burgess counters with a quick kick to the body but Ruttu blocks it. Ruttu misses with a straight right. Ruttu connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Burgess momentarily.

 That's four minutes gone in the round. Burgess misses with a low kick.
Ruttu dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Burgess. That did some damage! A low kick from Burgess is predictable there and Ruttu counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Burgess throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Ruttu on the side of the head. Ruttu tries to land a leg kick but Burgess saw it coming and moves away.

Burgess throwing a counter right hand but Ruttu manages to avoid it. Axton Burgess has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Ruttu fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Burgess has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
And that's the end of the fight! Reino Ruttu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Ruttu has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
