PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Small Richard (ranked 767 p4p, 1242 weight class) and Davdio Branko (ranked 72 p4p, 102 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 24 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Small Richard! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 33 - 36 - 0, fighting out of London, Davdio Branko! The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Saam Ante and Albert Achterberg.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A momentary lapse in concentration from Richard enables Branko to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Richard manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Branko preventing the sweep. Richard trying to control the position.
Richard working for a triangle but Branko defends it easily.
Branko thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Branko preventing the sweep. Richard might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Richard striking off his back.
Richard is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Branko trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Richard will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Branko stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Richard swivels though and keeps the full guard.
 That's one minute gone in the round.
Richard has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Branko can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Branko pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Richard is keeping the position for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Branko postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Richard is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Branko, into his guard.

Branko has his foot on Richard's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Richard works his way back into a safe position though. Branko looking to hit a scissor sweep but Richard is one step ahead there.
Branko is looking for a triangle here but Richard uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Richard landing strikes. Richard working the ground and pound. Branko is looking for a sweep.
Richard is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Branko is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Check out the look on Richard's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Branko on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Richard wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Branko, who protects the arm well. Richard lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Branko down.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Richard scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Branko to see if he's OK. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Branko is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Branko wants to improve his position but Richard is controlling well.
Richard drops an elbow to the side of Branko's head. Richard working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Branko is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Branko actively working from the bottom here.
Branko looking for submissions off his back. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Richard connects with a nice short shot to Branko's temple. Richard is trying to control. Branko wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Branko tries to get to full guard but Richard has control of the leg. Richard working over Branko with some ground and pound. Branko looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Richard passes to full mount! The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Richard cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Richard looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Branko is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Branko is wriggling around trying to escape.
Branko takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Richard with shots to the head and body - Branko looks very uncomfortable down there. Branko is in a horrible position here. Richard smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
 Branko is rocked!
 It looks like Davdio Branko has been cut. Richard cracks Branko with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Small Richard! A victorious Small Richard thanked his army of followers in his post fight interview, telling people to make sure they follow him on Twitter.
