PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tadahiro Nomura (ranked 740 p4p, 433 weight class) and Ilari Rahamies (ranked 60 p4p, 37 weight class). Nomura's entrance music is Nomura. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tadahiro Nomura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ilari Rahamies!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rahamies misses with a hook. Nomura ducked under it nicely.
Nomura uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Rahamies.
Rahamies dodges the punch combination from Nomura.
Nomura loads up on a big right hand but Rahamies slips the punch.
Nomura looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Rahamies throws a leg kick

and Nomura counters with a shoot takedown. Rahamies fights it but they end up in guard.
Rahamies wants to stand but Nomura is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nomura wants to control from the top but Rahamies keeps moving.
Nomura is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Nomura is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Nomura is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Nomura wants to pass the guard but Rahamies is keeping the position.
Rahamies wants to get back to his feet but Nomura is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Ilari Rahamies is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Nomura staying out of range there.
Rahamies with a nice cross.
Nomura checks the leg kick.
A big right from Rahamies misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rahamies moves away from the strike by Nomura.
Rahamies misses with a looping left.
Nomura throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Nomura throws a sloppy body shot
and Rahamies counters with a nice leg kick.
Rahamies throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
It looked like Nomura was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Rahamies scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Nomura misses with a double jab
and Rahamies counters with a straight right hand.

Nomura shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Rahamies napping and manages to drive through into side control!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Nomura is trying to get an arm triangle but Rahamies is defending well.
Rahamies is trying to buck Nomura off.
The ground and pound from Nomura seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Rahamies is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Nomura has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Nomura tries to move into full mount but can't pass Rahamies's legs.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rahamies is trying to get back to his feet.
Rahamies has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Nomura tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Nomura trying to control the position but Rahamies is working away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Nomura is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rahamies is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Rahamies tries to escape but Nomura is in control.
Nomura trying to control the action but Rahamies is working from the bottom.
Rahamies is trying to buck Nomura off.
Nomura just content to control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rahamies wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rahamies bucks up and tries to throw Nomura off but instead Nomura has got his back!
Rahamies is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Nomura off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
Rahamies is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tadahiro Nomura will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Ilari Rahamies seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Rahamies swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Nomura counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Nomura misses with a jab, cross combination.
Rahamies works over Nomura's head and body with a nice combination.

Nomura is rocked!
Rahamies moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Oh Nomura is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Rahamies catches Nomura with a right, a left, a right. It's raining punches and Nomura forgot an umbrella! Another punch and he's down. This one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Ilari Rahamies!
Our winner, Ilari Rahamies, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
