PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ishmael Egyptian (ranked 474 p4p, 871 weight class) and Flynn Knightley (ranked 39 p4p, 70 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Flynn Knightley was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 15 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Ishmael Egyptian!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Flynn Knightley!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Seu Braga and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Egyptian lands a right hook to the body.
Egyptian thows a left - swing and a miss!

Knightley has managed to clinch.
Knightley swings wildly with an uppercut but Egyptian uses good head movement to avoid it.
Knightley can't find room to land a body shot as Egyptian controls the action.
Knightley doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Still in the clinch, Knightley scores with a nice short uppercut.
Egyptian has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Egyptian really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

We've been hearing good reports from Egyptian's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Knightley clinches up with Egyptian and pushes him back against the cage.
Egyptian is looking to break free of the clinch but Knightley has double underhooks.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Knightley looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Egyptian!

Knightley has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Egyptian wants to hold on but Knightley pushes him away.
Egyptian is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Egyptian makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Egyptian.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Flynn Knightley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Egyptian stands and throws Knightley's legs to the side, diving into side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You can see the frustration on Knightley's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Egyptian is trying to get an arm triangle but Knightley is defending well.
Knightley manages to work his way to half guard, despite Egyptian's best efforts.

Egyptian throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Ishmael Egyptian showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Knightley has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
