Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Filip Kupon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Davis Chang!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Sosuke Kotani and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kupon throws a good cross that connects.
We've been hearing reports that Kupon has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Kupon lands with a good body shot.

Davis Chang seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horrible takedown attempt by Chang or perhaps it was just good defense by Kupon, which made it look bad.

Kupon avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Chang doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Kupon sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Chang's guard.
Kupon wants to control but Chang is keeping him busy.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kupon is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Chang manages to get to full guard.

Chang takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Chang changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kupon looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Kupon tries to bench press Chang off him but Chang keeps the position.
Chang wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kupon keeps working.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kupon manages to work his way to half guard, despite Chang's best efforts.
Kupon wants to improve his position but Chang is controlling well.
Kupon manages to get to full guard.
Chang wants to control from the top but Kupon keeps moving.

Kupon is pulling down on Chang's head. It's preventing any offense from Chang, at least for the moment.
Chang pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kupon is keeping the position for now.
Kupon seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Kupon takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Chang takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Kupon throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Chang on the side of the head.
Chang's coach down at Outlier Martial Arts New York was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Chang's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

and Kupon counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Filip Kupon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Davis Chang.
Chang drops his hands momentarily and Kupon takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Chang is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Kupon scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Kupon lands a shoulder strike.
Kupon lands a right hand that snaps the head of Chang backwards.
Kupon is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Chang can do to turn this around?

Chang is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Kupon is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Chang is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kupon's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kupon's back!
Filip Kupon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Chang shoots and misses
and Kupon counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Kupon getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Kupon cracks Chang with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
A punch lands to the side of Chang 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Kupon drops Chang with a big left hand and mounts him. Chang is in big trouble!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kupon sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Kupon looking to control but Chang is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Kupon tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Chang tries to hold on but Kupon postures up.
Kupon can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Chang is looking to escape.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Kupon takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Kupon wants to control but Chang is keeping him busy.

Kupon sizes up Chang with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Chang shoots for a double leg takedown but Kupon sprawls well. He's pushed Chang's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Chang moves forwards but Kupon connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Kupon fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Chang looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Kupon keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kupon lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Davis Chang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kupon jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Well Kupon has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
