Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Oneil (ranked 4 p4p, 13 weight class) and Carlo Pedersoli (ranked 1 p4p, 3 weight class). Oneil comes into the arena with Metallica - Spit Out The Bone blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Carlo Pedersoli!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Gwen Towbar and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Oneil goes for a double leg but Pedersoli avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Pedersoli continues to drive forward.
Pedersoli appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

Pedersoli is fighting off a takedown attempt but Oneil is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Pedersoli to the mat. Pedersoli regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Pedersoli is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Oneil tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Pedersoli just stands there and leans against the cage.
Oneil changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Pedersoli fights it off and pushes away nicely.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pedersoli avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Oneil.
Pedersoli felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Pedersoli bucks up and tries to throw Oneil off but instead Oneil has got his back!

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Oneil's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
David Oneil overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Oneil has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Pedersoli is in real trouble here. Oneil gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Pedersoli is tapping out! Oneil wins by rear naked choke!
