Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Devon Black (ranked 1305 p4p, 1218 weight class) and Alpha Karhu (ranked 150 p4p, 139 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 14 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Devon Black! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alpha Karhu! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and William Peck.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Karhu throws a right hand that misses
and Black counters with a single leg into guard. Karhu didn't expect that. Black trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Black looking to sit in guard and control but Karhu gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Karhu trying to control but Black is working from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Black keeping full guard, as Karhu tries to pass. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Black is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Karhu pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Black is keeping the position for now. Black managing to control the position. Karhu looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Karhu trying to control but Black is working from the bottom.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Black is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Black is trying to keep Karhu in close.
 The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Karhu uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Black. Karhu takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Black tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Karhu was well out of range. Poor timing from Black. Karhu looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it. Karhu looks to throw the jab but Black is out of range. Black changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Karhu leaves Black with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. A little jabbing left from Karhu on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Black misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Black misses with a takedown attempt and Karhu counters with a stiff right hand. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Devon Black. That's going to take a lot out of him. Black feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Karhus jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Karhu throws a sloppy body shot
and Black counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Black is keen to just control but Karhu is a slippery customer. Karhu slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Our spies down at at FF Forever inform us that Karhu has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Black is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Karhu trying to control but Black is working from the bottom. Karhu pushing down on Black's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Black keeping hold of Karhu's head, controlling as best he can.

 That's six minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Karhu is taking a breather. Black says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Black works his way to full guard. Good work. Black is trying to control the position but Karhu postures up. Karhu being controlled here momentarily. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Black seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Black continues to stall.
 The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Karhu forces Black back against the cage and clinches.
Black has hold of one of Karhu's legs. Karhu is fighting the takedown attempt but Black gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Black with a flurry of punches that miss. Black controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Karhu trying to control the position.

 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Black throws a big right hand that misses. Black trying to control but Karhu is working from the bottom. Karhu can't keep his opponent in guard - Black advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Black not landing any meaningful shots this time. Black with the ground and pound but Karhu uses the opportunity to regain guard. Karhu avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Black throwing strikes but missing.
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Black throws an elbow that misses. Karhu uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Black's guard. Nice move by Karhu!

Black can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Karhu controls the pace. Karhu tries to free his leg and advance position but Black is retaining full guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Black has control of Karhu's left arm, preventing Karhu from doing any damage. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Devon Black dominated that round. That's time! Black's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Black darts in looking for a takedown but Karhu gets double underhooks and turns Black into the cage. Karhu lands an uppercut. Karhu swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Black goes for a takedown attempt but Karhu pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Black with a body punch. A glancing blow. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Black scores with a nice head shot. Karhu doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Black fails with the takedown and Karhu counters with a straight right hand. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Devon Black. That's going to take a lot out of him. Jab by Black. Karhu misses with an uppercut. Black saw that one coming. Black misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Karhu.
Karhu throws out a counter right but Black avoids it with no problem. Karhu tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. A swing and a miss from Karhu. Karhu uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Black shoots in and drives through. Karhu sprawls well.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Black throws a hook but Karhu avoids it easily.
Black dives in and scores a takedown into Karhu's guard. Karhu bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Black's guard.
 Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Black keeping full guard, as Karhu tries to pass. Karhu stands and throws Black's legs to the side, diving into side control. Black can't do much from the bottom here. Karhu wants to lay and pray for a moment but Black keeps working.

Karhu tries for a kimura but Black is defending well. Karhu is looking to take a break and control but Black is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Karhu tries to move to mount but Black blocks the move with his legs. Black is trying to improve his position.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Karhu working away. Black is trying to improve his position.
Karhu goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Black rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Karhu's guard! Nice work there by Black! Black postures up and lands a big shot to Karhu's brow.
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Black advances position into side control! Black in side control lands a decent elbow. Karhu can't do much from the bottom here. Black trying to control the action but Karhu is working from the bottom. Black landing a few strikes. Black lands a nice forearm strike. Black is looking to take a break and control but Karhu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Karhu avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Black. Black throws an elbow but Karhu slips to the side and avoids it well. Karhu is not content to let Black control the position. An elbow from Black crashes against the mat.
Karhu is looking for a sweep.
 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Black cracks Karhu with a big elbow. Karhu tries to bench press Black off him but Black keeps the position. Black working the strikes but Karhu uses the opportunity to regain half guard. Black is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Black is looking to take a break and control but Karhu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Black trying to pass the guard but Karhu defending well.
Black is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Karhu defends it well.
Karhu makes his way to full guard, as Black worked for a kimura.
 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Karhu manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Black manages to get himself to full guard.
Black wants to sweep but no luck. Karhu trying to control the position from guard on top but Black is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Karhu tries to free his leg and advance position but Black is retaining full guard. Devon Black overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Black is trying to control the position but Karhu postures up. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Karhu being controlled here momentarily. Karhu wants to control from the top but Black keeps moving.
 The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Karhu takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Black misses with a jab, cross combination.
Karhu is looking for the big counter here. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Devon Black will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Black shoots in for a takedown but Karhu shows good takedown defense. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Karhu! But no joy. Black listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Devon Black is winning the standup battle so far. Karhu takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Karhu uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Black. It seemed like Karhu was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Karhu avoids the body shot from Black.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Black fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Karhu manages to avoid it. A swing and a miss from Karhu. Black throws a jab when Karhu was well out of range. Karhu is looking for the big counter here.

Black wants to control from the top but Karhu keeps moving. Black advances to half guard. Karhu keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Black trying to control from half guard but Karhu is working away. Black throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Karhu to regain full guard.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Black throwing strikes from guard but Karhu blocks nicely. Black has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Black slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Karhu keeping moving, preventing Black from controlling successfully. Black's corner is telling him to maintain position. Black throws an elbow that misses. Karhu uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Black's guard. Nice move by Karhu!

Black is refusing to be controlled, as Karhu sits in half guard. Black is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Black trying to control but Karhu postures up.

 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Karhu is pressing down on Black's thigh, looking to free his foot. Black is holding on for now. Black trying to control from the bottom.

A head punch on the inside from Karhu fails to land. A head punch blocked on the inside by Black. Karhu struggles to land a body shot inside as Black controls his hands.
And that's the end of the fight! Alpha Karhu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Black has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
