PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between MF Jones (ranked 2434 p4p, 2648 weight class) and Lenn Meritt (ranked 0 p4p, 277 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Lenn Meritt was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, MF Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lenn Meritt!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Sam Margolis and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meritt fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Jones keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Meritt shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jones attempts a counter takedown but Meritt avoids it well and moves away.
MF Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lenn Meritt.
Meritt tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jones swivels and escapes.
Meritt looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Meritt shoots in but Jones avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jones half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Meritt throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jones's waist but Jones gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Meritt off to one side.
Meritt fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jones avoids it really well and circles away.
Jones appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Meritt closes the distance and clinches up with Jones, looking for a takedown. Meritt pushes Jones against the cage but Jones circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Meritt tries for a takedown but Jones sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Meritt fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Meritt tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Meritt somewhat.
Jones appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Lenn Meritt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Meritt shoots in for a takedown but Jones shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Jones stuffs the takedown attempt from Meritt. Meritt gets slowly back to his feet.
Meritt fails with the takedown

so Jones counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Meritt looks winded!
Jones wants to stand but Meritt is controlling his posture from full guard.

Jones drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Jones seems to have locked his on tight now - Meritt screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Jones, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). MF Jones!
