PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mathias Jansen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jackson Faber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Faber has chosen m.o.v.e - around the world as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mathias Jansen!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jackson Faber!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Faber tries to land a front kick but Jansen steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Faber steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Jansen.
Faber missing with a left hand there. Jansen was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Jansen fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Faber avoids it really well and circles away.

Faber clinches.
Faber throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Faber misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Jansen.
A right handed body shot lands from Faber.
Faber lands a shot to the body.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Faber.
Jansen tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Faber smiles and moves away.
Faber does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Jansen gets cracked there but stands up to it.


It looks like Mathias Jansen has been cut.
Faber looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Jansen connects with a right hand. Faber shakes it off.
Jackson Faber seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Faber swings for the body but Jansen moves out of range.
Jansen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Faber swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mathias Jansen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Faber throws a good cross that connects.

Faber gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Faber tries to land knees in the clinch but Jansen avoids the damage to the body.
Jansen fails to pull guard.

Faber breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jansen cracks Faber with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Jansen blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Jansen managing to block the knees to the body from Faber.
Jansen jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Faber walks away with a smile on his face. Jansen gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Jansen misses with a double jab.

Faber circles away from the clinch attempt

and Faber counters by moving into the clinch.
Faber looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Faber controlling the action here for a moment.
Jansen fails to pull guard.
A bit of stalling here from Faber.
A right handed body shot lands from Faber.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Faber digs a right hand into Jansen's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Jansen's gas tank.
Faber taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Faber connects with a knee to the head.
Faber comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

The crowd are getting on Faber's back here. They're not happy about his lack of aggression in the clinch.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Jackson Faber.
Jansen throws a right and a left that Faber avoids nicely.

Jansen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Faber is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Jansen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Faber wants to stand up but Jansen is controlling him.
Faber is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Faber looks gassed!

Jansen drops back looking for a leg! Faber is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Faber manages to kick Jansen off! Jansen jumps back into Faber's guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Faber closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Faber manages to break the clinch.
Faber connects with a solid leg kick.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Faber pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jansen throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Faber.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jackson Faber dominated that round.

Faber tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jansen paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Faber throws a low kick, looking for Jansen's leg but Jansen calmly moves out of range.
Faber lands a jab to Jansen's midsection.
Good shot there by Faber.
Jansen wants to clinch but Faber slips to the side

and Faber counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Faber slowing the pace effectively.

Faber breaks from the clinch.

Jansen looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Faber!
Faber squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Jansen working for a guillotine from mount but Faber is in no mood to give up.

Jansen working for a submission but Faber is keeping him at bay.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Faber is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jansen is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Faber is forced to tap! Great finish!
