Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kevin Cassidy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Smith! The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cassidy throws the kick towards the body but Smith avoids it. Nice sprawl there from Smith as Cassidy shoots in. Smith displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
It looks like Kevin Cassidy has been cut. Smith misses with a two punch combination.
Smith looks to throw the jab but Cassidy is out of range. Cassidy dives in and grabs Smith's left leg, looking for a takedown. Smith pushes down on Cassidy's head and hops out. Cassidy misses with a double jab
and Smith counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Smith closes the distance and lands a one-two.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cassidy closes the distance looking to clinch and Smith counters with a nice uppercut. Cassidy looks to score with a jab to the body but Smith is just out of range. Smith connects with a right hand. Cassidy shakes it off. Smith moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Cassidy shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Smith pinned against the cage. Smith gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kevin Cassidy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith swings for the body but Cassidy moves out of range.
Smith scores with a jab to the jaw. Smith tries to keep at a distance but Cassidy has taken the fight into the clinch. Smith is trying to break the clinch but Cassidy has him pressed against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith wants to break the clinch but can't.
Cassidy scores with a hook to the body. This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Cassidy. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery. Cassidy stalling against the cage.
Smith is trying to force a seperation but Cassidy has the dominant position. Smith wants to break free but Cassidy has control.
Cassidy is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Smith is defending well for now. Cassidy can't find room to land a body shot as Smith controls the action.
Smith is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Cassidy taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Cassidy is looking to break free of the clinch but Smith has double underhooks. Smith looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Cassidy breaks from the clinch.
Cassidy throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Smith cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Smith swinging wilding here.
Cassidy tries to close the distance and clinch but Smith swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Smith listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Smith dominated that round. The cut man is working on Kevin Cassidy's cut. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Cassidy falls off balance throwing a combination
and Smith counters with a lovely straight right hand! Smith ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Horrible takedown by Cassidy or perhaps it was just good defense by Smith which made him look bad. Smith scores with a nice right hand.
A left lands for Smith. Cassidy misses with a double jab
and Smith counters with a crisp one two that drops Cassidy! Smith thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Cassidy to his feet! Cassidy is in big trouble!
Cassidy is rocked!
That's one minute gone in the round. Some wild striking there from Smith.
Cassidy throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Smith counters with a left and a right... And another left! Cassidy is down! He's done! The ref dives in to save him and that's the end of the fight!
