The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Appaport takes one on the button.
Maples throws a head kick but Appaport moves out of range.
Appaport fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Maples has Appaport up against the ropes in a clinch.
Maples avoiding damage as Appaport throws knees to the body.
Appaport tightens his grip and picks Maples up, before dumping him to the ground. Maples manages to land in guard.
Appaport trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Appaport trying to control the position from guard on top but Maples is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Appaport works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Maples wants to get back to his feet.
Maples is positioning himself well to prevent Appaport advancing to mount.

Maples manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Appaport throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Appaport shoots in for a takedown but Maples shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Appaport is breathing heavily.
Appaport shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Maples as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rartley Appaport. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Appaport closes the distance looking to clinch
and Maples counters with a single leg into guard. Appaport didn't expect that.
Maples decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Appaport, up you get!

Maples manages to break the clinch.
Maples lands a glancing blow to the side of Appaport's head.

Appaport has his takedown stuffed
and Maples counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Maples moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Maples throws a one two combo.
Maples closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Maples lands a few punches from side control.
Maples has hold of Appaport's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Appaport tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Maples cranks the arm and Appaport screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Appaport, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
