Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Josh Rawles! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paulo Cruz! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rawles tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cruz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rawles somewhat. Cruz displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Rawles shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cruz defends it nicely. Cruz keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh Rawles. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rawles throws a combination that misses and Cruz counters with a leg kick. Rawles takes the fight into the clinch. Rawles goes for a takedown in the clinch but Cruz prevents it.

That's one minute gone in the round. Rawles closes the distance and clinches. Rawles is working for a takedown up against the ropes. He can't get it on this occasion though. Rawles seems to have got his legs back now. Cruz keeps control of Rawles as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Cruz has had enough of the clinch but Rawles keeps him there for the moment. Cruz is trying to break free. Cruz blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Rawles breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Rawles dodges the punch combination from Cruz.
Rawles takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Josh Rawles seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rawles ducks right into an uppercut from Cruz. Rawles is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Cruz. Rawles has Cruz up against the ropes in a clinch.

Rawles turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Rawles manages to end up in side control. Cruz wants to get back to his feet but Rawles drags him back down. Rawles really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Rawles misses with the ground and pound. Rawles is breathing heavily. Rawles tries to move to mount but Cruz blocks the move with his legs. Rawles creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Cruz sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Cruz is trying to buck Rawles off. Rawles tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Cruz dodges the ground and pound from Rawles.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Rawles forces Cruz back against the ropes and clinches.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cruz is trying to force a seperation but Rawles has the dominant position. Rawles drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Nicely done. Rawles misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Cruz avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Rawles. Rawles stands up and beckons Cruz to his feet. Rawles forces Cruz back against the ropes and clinches. Rawles lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Rawles throwing shots but Cruz is blocking nicely. Rawles prevents Cruz from standing back up.
