The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Endo tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Maia was well out of range. Poor timing from Endo. Endo scores with a hook to the body. Maia takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Endo gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Maia to score an easy takedown into full guard. Maia tries to free his leg and advance position but Endo is retaining full guard. Maia must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Maia gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Maia misses with a few strikes there.
A big left from Maia misses. Endo throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Endo leaves Maia with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maia shoots for a takedown but Endo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Nice defenses there by Endo. Maia dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Maia scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Maia tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Maia uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Endo. Endo throws the left hand but Maia avoids the punch easily. Maia changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Maia looks to land a left hand but Endo moved out of range nicely. Endo avoids the body shot from Maia.
Maia throws a jab when Endo was well out of range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Endo checks a low kick from Maia. Maia feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Maia tries to free his leg and advance position but Endo is retaining full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Endo wants to sweep here but Maia controlling him for the moment. Maia tries to free his leg and advance position but Endo is retaining full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Maia uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Endo. A telegraphed right hand from Maia misses the target. Maia wants to land a leg kick but Endo is out of range. Endo stuffs the takedown attempt from Maia. Maia gets slowly back to his feet. Endo thows a leg kick but Maia checks it and Maia counters with a nice double leg into side control. Endo won't be happy with that. Maia laying and praying for a moment but Endo takes advantage and regains half guard. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Maia winds up and cracks Endo with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Endo wants to control but Maia is keeping busy and won't allow it. Maia controlling the pace. Endo wants to get back to full guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Maia is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Endo still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Endo has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! Maia dodges the ground and pound from Endo. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Daniel Maia showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Maia closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Endo to the mat! Endo manages to get full guard. Endo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Maia is one step ahead there. Maia wants to control from the top but Endo keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Endo keeping full guard, as Maia tries to pass. Endo looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Endo keeping moving, preventing Maia from controlling successfully. Maia stands up from Endo's guard - Maia perhaps looking for a knockout. Endo throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Maia fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Maia has his takedown stuffed and Endo counters with a single leg into guard. Maia didn't expect that. Heiji Endo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Maia.

Endo looking to sit in guard and control but Maia gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Maia trying to control the position from guard on top but Endo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. And that's the end of the fight! Heiji Endo showed his dominance in that final round. I think Maia has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
