The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sartell avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Powers digs a good body shot into Sartell's ribs. Powers misses with an uppercut. Sartell saw that one coming. Sartell dives in and grabs Powers's left leg, looking for a takedown. Powers pushes down on Sartell's head and hops out. Sartell forces Powers back against the ropes and clinches. Sartell takes a shot to the head.
It looks like Will Sartell has been cut. Sartell trying to land knees to the body.
With the fighters clinched against the ropes, Powers creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Powers works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Powers trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Powers is looking to work some ground and pound but Sartell has wrist control. Powers thows a big elbow that misses. Powers postures up and lands a big shot to Sartell's brow. Powers throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sartell works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Powers scoring with some ground and pound. Powers has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Sartell keeping moving, preventing Powers from controlling successfully. Powers postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Powers trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Powers stopping the sweep attempt from Sartell. Sartell preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Powers passes easily into side control. Nice work. Powers wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sartell keeps working.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Powers throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Powers misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Sartell is looking for a sweep.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Powers moves in looking to clinch but Sartell pushes him off. Powers gets in close and instigates a clinch. Sartell gets underhooks to prevent Powers's takedown attempt.
Powers misses with a short punch on the inside. Sartell doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Sartell blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Powers changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sartell fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Sartell clinches but Powers breaks the clinch and Powers counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Powers. This has been an exciting period of action! Sartell wants to stand and escape but Powers is having none of it. Sartell trying to keep a closed guard but Powers is proving a slippery customer.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Powers pushes down on Sartell's leg and manages to get into half guard. Powers missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Powers throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Powers wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sartell keeps working. Powers sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Sartell defending well though. Sartell is trying to stand.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Powers closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sartell circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kenny Powers. That's going to take a lot out of him. Powers looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Sartell! Powers scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Sartell?
That's four minutes gone in the round. Powers lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Sartell hang on? Powers with a couple of short strikes. Sartell looks gassed! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Powers with good strikes from the mount here!
That has opened up Will Sartell's cut even more. Powers pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
The cut above Will Sartell's eye is starting to cause him problems now. Powers looking to control but Sartell is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Powers landing strikes from the mount and Sartell is in trouble! A nice elbow there by Powers.
Will Sartell's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Will Sartell's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
