Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jed Masilungan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Smilehoven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Masilungan comes into the arena with Dead End blaring out of the sound system. This should be fireworks!

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jed Masilungan!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jim Smilehoven!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Seu Braga and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circling - Smilehoven throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
A jab lands there for Smilehoven.

Masilungan looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Masilungan postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Smilehoven to stand up.
Masilungan comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Masilungan throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Masilungan lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Smilehoven down.

Masilungan's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smilehoven can do anything to dispel that myth.

Masilungan postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Smilehoven is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Masilungan has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Smilehoven throws a lazy right hand but Masilungan sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Masilungan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smilehoven, pushing him back against the cage.

Masilungan has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Smilehoven uses from the top position.

Masilungan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smilehoven can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Masilungan lands with a nice combination. Smilehoven backs away looking to recover.
Smilehoven throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Masilungan sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Masilungan connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Masilungan feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
