Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alejandro Suarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rua comes into the arena with Slayed blaring out of the sound system. Mauricio Rua could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Alejandro Suarez's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mauricio Rua!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alejandro Suarez!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Suarez on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Suarez throws a right and a left that both miss.
Rua fails in his attempt to clinch.
Rua throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Suarez.
Rua throws out a powerful jab.

Rua decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Rua wants to take a breather but Suarez is having none of it.
Rua thows a huge punch but Suarez dodges it nicely.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Suarez can do anything to dispel that myth.
Rua looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rua wants to pass the guard but Suarez is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rua trying to control the action but Suarez is working from the bottom.
Rua passes to full mount!

Rua content just to control the position here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rua thowing shots but they're missing.
Rua sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Suarez holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Rua tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Rua closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Rua just content to control the position.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Mauricio Rua just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Rua tries to bum rush Suarez with a series of wild strikes but Suarez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Alejandro Suarez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rua moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Rua tries to close the distance and clinch but Suarez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Donk. Suarez catches Rua right on the button with a cross.

Rua drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Rua is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Rua wants to pass the guard but Suarez is keeping the position.

Rua slips nicely into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rua is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Suarez reverses the position - he's now on top in Rua's guard.
Rua is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Suarez wants to pass the guard but Rua is keeping the position.
Suarez won't allow Rua to sweep him here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Suarez lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Rua wants to clinch.
Rua throws a nice head kick!
Suarez connects with a jab.
Suarez looks to land a combination but Rua avoids it well.

Rua instigates a clinch.
Rua wants to stall.
Rua working Suarez over with knees to the body.
Suarez wants to break the clinch but can't.
Suarez lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Rua backwards.
Rua looking to throw knees to the head but Suarez is blocking nicely.
Rua throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Suarez blocks it with crossed arms.
Suarez working hard to break the clinch.

Suarez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A jab from Suarez finds it's way through Rua's defenses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mauricio Rua dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Suarez misses with a hook. Rua ducked under it nicely.
Rua tries to clinch there but Suarez circles away.
Suarez misses with an uppercut. Rua saw that one coming.
A punch combination from Suarez misses.
Suarez circles away from the clinch attempt.
A telegraphed right hand from Suarez misses the target.
Suarez takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
A jab from Rua finds it's way through Suarez's defenses.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Rua.
Suarez circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rua moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Rua takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Suarez throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rua shoots in for a takedown but Suarez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Suarez lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Suarez lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


It looks like Mauricio Rua has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Suarez throws a looping overhand right but Rua ducks down to avoid it.
Suarez ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Suarez misses with a wild body shot.
Rua dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Suarez. That did some damage!
Rua lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Rua works Suarez's body with a nice hook.
Suarez stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Rua shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Suarez as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mauricio Rua. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Suarez misses with an uppercut. Rua saw that one coming.
Suarez avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Rua fails in his attempt to clinch.
Rua thumps Suarez with a low kick.
Suarez avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Rua closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rua lands in his opponent's guard.
Rua is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rua missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Rua looking to sit in guard and control but Suarez gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rua is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Rua lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Suarez!
Suarez blocking the ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rua throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Rua misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rua pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Suarez lands with a nice combination. Rua backs away looking to recover.
Suarez misses with a double jab
and Rua counters with a huge head kick that drops Suarez! The ref dives in to stop the fight and the crowd goes wild!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:09 of round 4, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mauricio Rua!
