Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jagdish Rangarajan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
16 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luke Cage! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A chopping leg kick lands by Rangarajan. Cage blocks the body kick.
Cage moves in looking to clinch but Rangarajan pushes him off. Rangarajan throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cage. Cage takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Rangarajan pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. A chopping leg kick lands by Cage. Cage throws a quick inside leg kick. Cage darts in and clinches Rangarajan up against the cage. A shot in the inside from Cage. Cage blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Cage lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Rangarajan. Cage lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Cage leaning his opponent against the cage. A quick uppercut on the inside from Cage. A head punch blocked on the inside by Rangarajan. Cage tries to break the clinch but Rangarajan is controlling the position. Cage misses with some punches.
Rangarajan has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Cage breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Cage moves into the clinch. Rangarajan working hard to break the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cage lands a nice uppercut. Cage lands on the inside with an uppercut. Cage lands with a right to the head. A body shot lands from Cage.
Cage misses with the head strike.
A short left from Cage. Rangarajan is breathing heavily. Cage lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Cage lands a body punch in the clinch. Cage working some nice short punches in the clinch. A shot in the inside from Cage. Cage lands with a short head shot on the inside. Cage escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cage throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A head kick by Cage - that's a beauty! Rangarajan is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Cage can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Luke Cage!
