PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Taz Rutten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodney Bagcal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rutten comes to the cage accompanied by IF I DIE TONIGHT. Bagcal has chosen RZA - Domestic Violence as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Taz Rutten! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rodney Bagcal! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Some wild striking there from Bagcal.
Bagcal fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rutten, pushing him back against the cage. Bagcal tries to work over Rutten's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Bagcal wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Rutten has him pressed against the cage. Rutten's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Rutten pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Bagcal tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rutten swats him away and circles back towards the center. Bagcal swings for the body but Rutten moves out of range.
Bagcal throws a head kick but Rutten moves out of range.
Rutten ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bagcal moves away. Bagcal misses with a double jab.
Bagcal fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Rutten keeps the fight on the outside. Bagcal pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rutten swats away the attempt to clinch by Bagcal. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rutten works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Bagcal will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Rutten misses with a head kick.
Bagcal scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Rutten scores with a nice strike. A thudding body kick lands there by Rutten!
That's one minute gone in the round. Rutten fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Bagcal looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Bagcal takes one to the chin there. Rutten scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Bagcal is looking to clinch but Rutten is avoiding it.
Rutten moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Rutten misses with a two punch combination.
Rutten lands a body shot.
Bagcal looks gassed! Bagcal throws a low kick but Rutten avoids it. Rutten scores with a push kick. Rutten wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Rutten lands with a hook. Bagcal tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Bagcal takes a body punch but keeps moving. Bagcal takes a kick to the side of the head. Rutten uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Rutten throws a series of punches but Bagcal avoids them all with ease. Rutten getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Rutten jabs at Bagcal's body. Rutten lands a jab to the nose. Rutten scores with a sloppy right hand. Bagcal should have avoided that one. Rutten throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters circle, before Rutten throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Bagcal's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Rutten lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick & Punches). Taz Rutten!
