Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob Chong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chong's entrance music is I SHOT THE SHERIFF. A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bob Chong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Smith!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Decent striking displayed by Chong there.
Smith throws a leg kick that is checked
and Chong counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Smith thinking.
John Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith misses with an uppercut
and Chong counters with an inside leg kick.
Good leg kick by Smith there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Smith throws a lazy head kick
and Chong counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Chong looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Chong takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Smith misses with a body kick.

and Chong counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smith lands with a hook. Chong tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

and Chong counters with a head kick. That will keep Smith thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Chong is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Chong with a flurry of punches that miss.
Chong seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Chong from controlling successfully.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Chong throws a big right hand that misses.
Chong in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Chong postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Chong won't allow Smith to sweep him here.
Chong controls from within his opponent's guard.
Chong stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Chong shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Chong showed some decent athleticism there.

Smith is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Smith is not content to let Chong control the position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Smith takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Chong fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

A head kick from Chong lands but Smith takes it in his stride.

Smith is breathing heavily.
Chong lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Chong jabs Smith to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Chong throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Chong closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Chong stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Chong lands a hook that snaps the head of Smith backwards.
Still in the clinch, Chong scores with a nice short uppercut.
Chong with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Chong crunches a lovely knee into Smith's ribcage.
Chong tries to land a knee to the head but Smith blocks with his arms.

Chong escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Chong connects with a jab.

A nice inside leg kick there by Smith. That's going to slow Chong down.

Smith has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Chong.
Smith takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Smith throws a lazy body kick
and Chong counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Chong scores with the left hand. Smith knows he should have avoided that one.
Chong connects with a leg kick. Smith looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Bob Chong is winning the standup battle so far.
Chong tries to clinch but Smith is having none of it.

Chong tests Smith's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Smith takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Chong connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Chong shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Chong wants to pass the guard but Smith is defending well.

Chong is nestled in close to Smith, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Chong is trying to control the action in half guard but Smith is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Chong has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Chong wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Chong is taking a breather. Smith says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Chong in particular looking to stall.

Chong is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Smith doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Chong.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Smith keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Chong is looking to take a break and control but Smith is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Chong thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Smith's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chong throwing shots but Smith is blocking nicely.
Still in half guard, Chong seems content to control.
Chong missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Smith is refusing to be controlled, as Chong sits in half guard.

Chong looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Chong stalling away here and it's allowed Smith to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Chong throws a big right hand that misses.
John Smith has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Chong postures up in Smith's guard and throws a big left but Smith blocks it.

Chong is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Smith is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Smith has escaped and now he's on top!
Smith looking to sit in guard and control but Chong gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bob Chong showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Chong has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
